NATIONAL RAN COOKS REUNION
Friday 7th March to Monday 10th March 2014
In November 2014 Albany WA will be hosting the celebration of the ANZAC troops and support ships departing for Gallipoli. At this point in time we are unsure of what ships, people etc are participating. We understand that ships taking part(this will include cruise ships) will arrive Albany waters on the 30th and 31st of October 2014 and depart on the 1st November 2014. Currently the info we are working on is not from official sources, but Doug Ryan who lives in Mt Barker is in the throes of correcting that situation. Once that occurs we will be in a position to advise actual the actual programme.
The sole purpose in publicising this event on our web site is to gauge interest of caravanners and others who are interested in attending this event. Before I continue let there be no misunderstanding, this will "not be a reunion". As this is the centenary of the fleet departing Albany, we in the west thought it would be an event we could certainly support, as its only a six hour drive from Perth and a beaut spot as well. Therefore we are inviting anyone interested to join us. There will be no registration process or major functions organised - it will simply be a get together.
We understand that accommodation which includes caravan parks will be in short supply and therefore will need to booked well in advance. It might therefore be possible for every one to stay at the same venue.
Ok in a nutshell anyone who is interested please contact me and we will go from there.
Regards Trevor Cangemi

Hobart History DDG39
HMAS Hobart DDG 39 was commissioned in Boston USA on 18 December 1965 .
She was the second of three Charles F Adams class to be built. The first being HMAS Perth DDG 38 and the third HMAS Brisbane DDG 41
HMAS Hobart was the first warship to be deployed to Vietnam – and indeed served with distinction during her three tours of duty in Vietnam . She was awarded the United States Navy Unit Citation during her first tour of Vietnam
HMAS Hobart was also awarded the Gloucester Cup in 1967 after her first deployment to Vietnam – And before the end of her service she had received the award a total of 8 times – indeed a great honour. This cup is awarded annually to the most proficient ship in the fleet.
The ship was decommissioned in Sydney after approx 35 years of service and was sunk as a dive wreck in Yankalilla Bay , South Australia in November 2002.
